🇦🇺 Essendon CEO Andrew Thorburn has quit the role barely 24 hours after being appointed.
The former boss of NAB, who quit that role in 2019 following scathing claims in the banking Royal Commission, took the job at Tullamarine on Monday.
But it’s since been revealed Thorburn is the chairman of the controversial City on a Hill church, which holds anti-gay and anti-abortion stances described as “absolutely appalling” by Victorian premier Dan Andrews.

🎾 Lawyers for Nick Kyrgios have said they will apply to have an assault charge against him dismissed on mental health grounds.
Kyrgios, who is currently playing in the Japan Open in Tokyo, was not required to attend the hearing in Canberra on Tuesday.
The charge against the 27-year-old relates to an alleged assault in December 2021 on a former partner.
If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison.

❄️ Saudi Arabia has won the right to host the Asian Winter Games in 2029.
The Games will take place in Trojena, Neom city, a planned $500 billion futuristic megacity mountain resort in the desert that planners say will feature a year-round winter sports complex. It is due to be completed in 2026.
Neom chief executive Nadhmi Al-Nasr said the venue "will have a suitable infrastructure to create the winter atmosphere in the heart of the desert."
🐴 'Just Fine' made history as the first winner for King Charles III since he inherited the late Queen's horses.
The 10-3 shot, who won at Leicester, was the sixth runner to carry the royal purple, red and gold colours since Queen Elizabeth II died on 8 September.
"A winner for the King! It is great to have done that for him - and he was very impressive," said Stoute.

🏈 Jimmy Garoppolo completed 16 of 27 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown to power the San Francisco 49ers over the reigning NFL champion Los Angeles Rams 24-9 on Tuesday.
