Izak Rankine’s produced a breathtaking AFL debut on Saturday night.

Nearly 600 days after he was taken with Pick 3 by the Suns, Rankine lived up to the lofty expectations, booting three slick goals.

Rankine’s three majors, which came an instinctive snap around the body, smart soccer off the ground and a speedy kick after a lightning rove off a forward 50 stoppage, had the AFL world in a spin.

“The talk was massive and then he just went out and backed it up,” Lyon told Fox Footy’s Saturday Stretch. (Fox)

👟 Wrong start line

American Noah Lyles briefly appeared to have set an astonishing new 200m world record of 18.90 seconds in the Inspiration Games, before it was revealed he ran only 185m.

Lyles' time would have obliterated the 19.19-second mark set by Jamaican great Usain Bolt back in 2009.

Given Lyles' personal best is 19.50 and he was running into a strong headwind, the time was immediately challenged.

"That cannot be right!" said BBC commentator Steve Cram.

"Even he has got his hands in the air wondering what is going on!"

Around five minutes later Cram revealed world champion Lyles, running on his own in Florida, had started from the wrong lane and run 15m less than his rivals at other tracks.

Lyles, 22, tweeted afterwards: "You can't be playing with my emotions like this...."

Aussie UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski made the first trip to MMA’s new home in Abu Dhabi a memorable one by retaining his featherweight championship.

Volkanovski appeared in all sorts of trouble early in his rematch against Max Holloway as he was floored once by a head kick and once by an uppercut.

But he bravely fought back to win a split decision and stay undefeated in the UFC.

Kamaru Usman also retained his crown in the main event, outworking Jorge Masvidal to stay the welterweight king. (news)
