πŸ—ž Cracks are showing

G'day sports fans,

Classic quote: β€œIt’s like you’re running a marathon, at pace, while surviving about 20 or 40 small car crashes.”  - South Sydney Rabbitohs owner Russell Crowe describes rugby league to an American audience.

In today's edition of Sport Journal:

The ladder:

  1. Adelaide Crows 17 (Sorry lads, at least you’re winning something this year)

  2. Collingwood Magpies 4 (Bucks, Dunn, Sidebottom & Sanderson)

  3. Port Adelaide Power 3 (Ladhams, Houston & Wines)

  4. Western Bulldogs 3 (Lachie Hunter, Billy Gowers & Bailey Smith)

  5. Essendon Bombers 2 (Connor McKenna & Zerk Thatcher)

  6. Fremantle Dockers 2 (Luke Ryan & Jason Carter)

  7. Sydney Swans 2 (Elijah Taylor & his partner get a twofer since I went after BC)

  8. Melbourne Demons 2 (Charlie Spargo & Kysiah Pickett)

  9. Richmond Tigers 1 (Brooke Cotchin, how dare she)

It’s one of the highlights on the AFL calendar, and for the 14th year the league will celebrate the Indigenous Round.

Result: Eels 14-0 Storm: Gritty Eels shut out weakened Storm. Melbourne were held scoreless for the first time in six years. (match report)

Previews

Panthers (1.32) v Sharks (3.65): (match preview) The Panthers haven’t slowed down since a demolition of the Sharks 56-24 in round 9.

Titans (4.25) v Raiders (1.25): (match preview) Wingers back, two sidelined for Gold Coast

  • 16 of Canberra's last 21 matches have gone UNDER total points (44.5pts)

The Sydney Roosters have re-signed star five-eighth Luke Keary who will remain in Bondi for a further three years.

Wests Tigers (3.15) v Roosters (1.40): (match preview) Twal a chance; new Tricolours halves

  • Brett Morris has scored in his last 6 night matches (random) (1.90)

  • Manly have lost their last 10 matches at ANZ stadium

⚽️ Football

UEFA Europa Cup Preview (5am Saturday): Cup specialists and 5 time winners Sevilla (2.25) saw off Man United in the semi-final take on an Inter Milan (1.57) side that wouldn't look out of place in the main event.

UEFA Champions League Final (5am Sunday): PSG (3.25) v Bayern Munich (2.0). If Bayern Munich win, they will be the first club in history to lift the European Cup/Champions League by winning every single game.

  • Bayern are seeking to join Liverpool on six European Cup wins. Ajax (7), Real Madrid (13)

  • A Paris win would make them the 23rd side to win it.

A-League Elimination Finals

Wellington Phoenix (2.40)v Perth Glory (2.60): Perth are the only side Wellington have beaten since the lock down. For Wellington, striker Hooper and key defender Tim Payne have been ruled out of the finals. They are still narrow favourites to beat out-of-sorts Perth. Expect a low scoring affair.

Brisbane Roar (2.45) v Western United (2.55): The teams split their two regular season clashes. Western United’s 2-0 won in Brisbane in Week 10, while Mirza Muratovic’s 61st-minute strike saw Brisbane prevail 1-0 in Ballarat.

This should be a gripping affair and the Roar will be difficult to break down. But Western United’s more potent attack could win the day.

Globetrotter starts international campaign in Winx Stakes

Multiple Group I winner Con Te Partiro kicks off her spring campaign on Saturday - a preparation that could see her represent Australia at the Breeders Cup in November.

The former US galloper that won the Sandringham Handicap during the 2017 Royal Ascot meeting, has been a work in progress since arriving in Australia during the early part of 2019.

Con Te Partiro hasn’t been the easiest horse to deal with at Tulloch Lodge but showed what she’s capable of during the autumn, claiming a Group I double of the Coolmore Classic and Queen Of The Turf in the space of three runs.

πŸ₯Š Whyte vs Povetkin heavyweight Fight

Dillian Whyte (1.25) warns Alexander Povetkin (4.0) he can launch into explosive assault at any moment of heavyweight fight. "When I'm in shape, you've got problems, because I can do what I like to do. I don't mind blowing up because I can recover, go again. Whatever he wants to do, I'm cool with it.

We'll see on Sunday morning.

πŸ’ Play-off, first round - Game 5 (10am)

The Capitals avoided a sweep in Game Four, winning 3-2. They are looking to become the fifth team in NHL history to come back from a 3-0 series deficit.

πŸ€ Los Angeles Lakers need to be worried heading into Game 2 against Portland Trail Blazers

The cracks are starting to show for the Lakers. They are definitely missing Rajon Rondo and the defense of Avery Bradley. For them to bounce back into the series, their perimeter defence needs to improve, if they're to avoid a repeat of the 100-93 score in the first game.

πŸ€ Australian NBA star Joe Ingles is off to his best ever start in the NBA playoffs as his Utah Jazz level up their series with the Denver Nuggets.

Ingles added 18 points for the Jazz who thumped the Nuggets 124-105, levelling the best of seven series to 1-1.

The 32-year-old nailed four three-pointers and added six assists and two rebounds.

πŸ€ LaMelo Ball’s Knicks NBA draft dream about to be decided

It's been reported Ball’s preference is New York and his handlers are not averse to steering him there. Father Lavar Ball already stated the Knicks are the top choice. 6th seed Knicks have a 9% chance of winning the lottery and nearly 30% chance of being Top 3, where the former Illawarra Hawks Ball is expected to be. (Draft is live from 10:30am on ESPN1)
