Richmond's premiership defence is in tatters after Gold Coast produced one of the greatest wins in club history at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night.

The Suns were the better team and led nearly the entire game, and Ben King's fourth goal with less than two minutes remaining was a fitting exclamation point on the 10.17 (77) to 10.7 (67) victory.

It snapped a three-game losing streak for the Suns and in the process put a serious question mark over the Tigers' quest for a third straight premiership, now losing to St Kilda and Gold Coast in successive weeks.

🏉 NRL

The Melbourne Storm notched their 13th-straight win following a 46-0 thrashing of the Roosters in Newcastle.

Despite a tight opening 20 minutes to tonight's match, five first-half tries to the Storm ultimately proved too big of a task for the Roosters to overcome as Melbourne made light work of their fifth-placed opposition.

Melbourne notched eight unanswered tries while becoming the first team this season to keep the Roosters scoreless.

Winger Josh Addo-Carr produced a hat-trick as Melbourne owned possession at 53 per cent. The Storm completed their sets at 74 per cent (32/43), compared to just 68 per (26/38) cent from the Roosters.

Daniel Suluka-Fifita may be set for a stint on the sidelines after coming in with a high shoulder on Cameron Munster.

Matt Lodge will be in Warriors colours by the weekend as his immediate move will see Brisbane to contribute close to $1 million of his wage over the next two and half seasons. (NRL)

Rugby league immortal Andrew Johns has challenged the NRL to trial different balls depending on the time and conditions. (nine)

"My idea is to have a different ball at night with more pronounced dimples, where you can actually grab hold of the ball and it sticks to your hands more.

"The downside of this would be the kickers would jump up and down - the goal kickers would say it's harder to kick. But does anyone go to games to watch people kick goals? No. I think we should challenge Steeden.

🎾 Wimbledon

World number one Ashleigh Barty ground out a second-round win over Anna Blinkova as the Wimbledon draw opened up further for her with the exit of third seed Elina Svitolina.

Barty's serve was error-strewn but she dug deep to secure a 6-4 6-3 win.

American 20th seed Coco Gauff followed Barty into the third round after defeating Russia's Elena Vesnina 6-4 6-3 on Centre Court.

But Ukraine's Svitolina is out, beaten 6-3 6-4 by Magda Linette.

There are now just three top-10 players remaining in the draw - Barty, second seed Aryna Sabalenka and 2020 French Open champion Iga Swiatek.

Coco Gauff enjoyed a successful Centre Court homecoming as she easily beat Elena Vesnina 6-4 6-3 to make it through to the third round at Wimbledon.
