🏏 Australia secured a 3-2 series victory over England after a fortuitous rain interruption handed the World Cup champions a 49-run victory via the DLS Method on Sunday.

Chasing a 310-run target for victory at Bristol’s County Ground, Australia raced towards 2-165 in 20.4 overs before downpour forced a premature end to the series.

A minimum of 20 overs is required to constitute a result in ODIs, meaning the match and series would have been draw if the rain arrived five deliveries earlier, which was about four minutes.

🏀 NBL: An 11-0 run late on saw the New Zealand Breakers win their first home game of the NBL season despite a late scare from the South East Melbourne Phoenix to prevail 81-79.

Tyler Harvey was the hero as the Illawarra Hawks stayed undefeated beating the Sydney Kings 96-89 at Qudos Bank Arena.

A Little Knock

Panthers star Nathan Cleary has been given a grand final warning on his suspect shoulder after the halfback left Penrith’s preliminary final win against Cronulla early.

Cleary clutched at his troublesome left shoulder after making a tackle with eight minutes left in the game, with coach Ivan Cleary pulling his son from the game not long after.

The halfback allayed any fears he’d miss the grand final, telling reporters “it’s all good... it’s just a little knock.”

However, Blues State of Origin doctor Dr Nathan Gibbs warned that it’s the type of injury that if Cleary carries into the grand final, it could quickly curtail Penrith’s chance at a fourth straight premiership.

“It is one of those injuries that, unfortunately for Nathan, could happen in the first minute of the grand final,” Gibbs told the SMH.

🤔 Storm coach Craig Bellamy has a headache on his hands in the front row after enforcer Nelson Asofa-Solomona was slapped with a whopping four-game ban.

That is if he takes the early guilty plea, with Melbourne having until lunchtime on Monday to decide where they will contest the charge, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Asofa-Solomona earned himself a grade three dangerous contact charge for his hit on Roosters prop Lindsay Collins, which was his third and subsequent offence.

Lazarus Vaalepu, 25, & Joe Chan are shaping as bench contenders, with Tui Kamikamica likely to shift into the starting front row.

🙋🏼‍♀️ The Sydney Roosters will meet the Cronulla Sharks in next week’s NRLW grand final after the pre-season favourites ended Newcastle’s season with a 25-16 preliminary final win at Allianz Stadium.

The Cronulla Sharks are through to their first ever NRLW grand final after downing the Broncos in their preliminary final clash at a sold out Totally Workwear Stadium in Brisbane 14-0.

👋🏼 The future of Brisbane star Joe Daniher remains up in the air with journalists saying there’s a “very, very strong chance he has played his last game of football”.

Wild speculation sparked by AFL commentator Brian Taylor saw Daniher head into the 2024 Grand Final with retirement questions circling.

“At the moment there is a strong conditioning and even expectation that is it, which is extraordinary given how well he played in that grand final, how well he played in last year’s grand final and how well he played in big matches for the Brisbane Lions.”
