Potential NYE Grand Final and 'canned' crowd noise incoming

Broadcaster Seven is looking at piping in fake crowd noise for games played in empty stadiums - potentially both for TV and for the players.
“Big changes looming in footy, and when footy does return, it looks like we’ll have recorded crowd noise or canned effects, if you like,” 7news' Mark Stevens said.
7news also reported that the AFL is still weighing up whether to play a twilight or night Grand Final in 2020, including a potential flag decider on New Year’s Eve.
The Eagles’ thrilling 2018 Grand Final triumph over Collingwood has been voted as the best VFL/AFL game of the past 50 years.
After thousands of votes were cast, Fox Footy’s list of the 50 best games of the past 50 years — as voted by the public — has been finalised and revealed.
Top 3:
1. 2018, Grand Final: Collingwood v West Coast

Rowe might have (accidentally) broken a world record

Ever broken a world record by accident? no, me either.
When Georgie Rowe hopped on her indoor rowing machine on Saturday, she had no intention of breaking a world record.
When the national championships were cancelled, Rowing Australia turned to the innovative idea of an indoor rowing competition.
"It was just a good way to do it — put on 21km, put some music on and just go for it."
Her time: 1.19:28.4 — more than 40 seconds faster than current record holder, Esther Lofgren (USA)
Rowe said that rowing an extra metre (21,098 rather than 21,097) appears to be holding up the decision around officially declaring the world record, and she doesn't know when it will be resolved. (ABC)

Negative vibes for Cooper's potential NRL switch

Cronulla Sharks great Paul Gallen has questioned teams considering the prospect of signing international players who find themselves stuck during the coronavirus pandemic.
Sydney Morning Herald sports writer Michael Chammas wrote in his column yesterday that the NRL could take advantage of other competitions suffering longer suspensions with the likes of Israel Folau, Quade Cooper and Sonny Bill Williams on team radars.
"I'm not against it, but what sort of club would want him (Quade Cooper)?" Gallen said on2GB's Wide World of Sports Radio.
"You look at teams like the Titans or Bulldogs, someone who needs something, I can't see the Melbourne Storm and Roosters signing him."
“Quade is an exceptionally talented player and he has skills that most people dream of and it would be exciting to watch, but would it work?” Braith Anasta questioned on Fox League Live.
"Give him a shot, I would love to see him have a go,” Sam Burgess said
“I would love to see it because he would get terrorised. If I was playing I would terrorise him and test him out. There is a bit of the cross code and I’ve done it.
“The transition is hard and there is not as many transferable skills as you’d imagine.

Brazilian Poker Player Turns $11 Into $1.2M During PokerStars' Biggest-Ever Online Tournament

A Brazilian poker player managed to take home an incredible $1,192,802.46 (£958,305.13) after a four-way deal during the PokerStars Sunday Million tournament.
Brito was made unemployed last year. To make matters worse, his wife recently lost her job too.
AAAArthur - whose real name is Alex Brito - satellited into the event for just $11, and eventually came into the final table of nine with the shortest stack after a record-breaking field of 93,016 players.
After three days of play, 38-year-old Brito ended up scooping the victory, taking home a frankly bonkers amount of money - and significantly more than he'd started with.
Brito originally started with a $0.25 Spin & Go, which he won. He then used his winnings to enter a $4 satellite, which he also won (obviously).(PokerStars)

🏈 ESPN studios to host virtual draft

The NFL draft takes place next week - but not in Las Vegas as had been planned. Due to lockdown restrictions, it will now be a virtual draft originating from the ESPN studios in Bristol, Connecticut.
The draft hosts and a limited number of commentators will be in-studio while many analysts and reporters will contribute remotely from home studios.
The event sees NFL teams pick players for next season from the best of last season's college players, with 58 of the draft prospects having agreed to take part virtually.
When each pick is made, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will introduce them from his home on Friday, 24 April.

🏈 Bankruptcy for XFL

The XFL’s parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. On Friday, the league suspended all operations and laid off almost all of its employees.
The filing, which was made by Alpha Entertainment, said the XFL had assets and liabilities in the range of US$10 million to $50 million
The reborn XFL spent two years in development before debuting in February. The eight-team league played five weeks (where things got pretty wild) before it had to suspend its season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Initially, the league had said it had plans to return in 2021.
The league could be sold during the bankruptcy process, according to ESPN.

Alligator Blood's Magic Millions B-Sample returns positive

A second sample has confirmed the prohibited substance altrenogest in the swab taken from Alligator Blood after he won the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas at the Gold Coast.
Trainer David Vandyke will now face a stewards’ inquiry at a date to be set.
If he is found guilty of presenting horse to race with a prohibited substance it is likely he would face a fine but Alligator Blood would be disqualified from first place in the January 11 race and the $1.1 million first prize would be forfeited.
Alligator Blood has since won two races in Melbourne including the Group One Australian Guineas.
The swabs from those races have been cleared clear and prize money has been paid.
Vandyke says he has been informed the B sample taken from Alligator Blood had come back positive and he now faced an inquiry.
Alternogest has in the past been commonly used to control the reproductive cycle of mares but it is banned in colts and geldings.
$101 roughie's placing seals huge multi collect

Self-isolation boredom has led to a five-figure fill-up for a Melbourne punters club.
The club, made up of nine school mates from De La Salle, decided to tinker with their betting rules for a one-off 'Super Saturday'.
"We usually bet $100 in total per week," club spokesman Josh Scipione told Punters.
"Yesterday though, everyone got an additional $50 as we're all bored out of our brains at home in isolation."
One member of the club, Joe Mannix, put his $50 to truly outstanding use.
Mannix placed a four-leg multi, starting with his own horse to place in race five at Warracknabeal. (Punters)
He also put $70 on the side for himself and bagged an additional $35k

🚴🏼♂️ Tour De France

After weeks of holding out hope the Tour de France would be able to go ahead as planned despite the coronavirus pandemic, the world’s most famous cycling race was finally added to the list of sporting events called off.
It may still happen this year, but it’s clear the three-week race won’t be starting on June 27 in the Riviera city of Nice as scheduled.
French President Emmanuel Macron effectively made that decision in his speech to the nation on Monday when he announced that all public events with large crowds have been cancelled until at least mid-July.
The last time the Tour was not held was in 1946, with the nation still emerging from World War II. It was also stopped during WWI.
