Hammer time shines as Cowboys win second Nines title

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow turned heads with a blur of pace and four-pointers at the NRL Nines, and it was a similar "blink and you'll miss it" moment of brilliance that prompted the Cowboys to poach him from Queensland Rugby two years ago.

"The Hammer" is being talked up by teammates, punters and pundits as a potential rival to Josh Addo-Carr's claims as the fastest man in the game after lighting up North Queensland's title win in Perth.

Everyone in rugby league knows Pete Mulholland. One of the best talent scouts in the business, “Skull” is also in the grand final for the best blokes.

A mentor to three generations of football players, Mulholland has been fighting a rare form of cancer for more than 18 months now.

You won’t catch him complaining about it.

When Mulholland heard the NRL was headed back to his old Western Reds stomping ground of Perth, he immediately booked his flights (Fox)

AFL fires up star power for State of Origin fundraiser

More of the game's biggest names could play in the State of Origin Bushfire Relief game after lobbying from Damien Hardwick and John Longmire.

STATE of Origin coaches Damien Hardwick and John Longmire have been granted their wish, leading a change to the selection criteria in next week's Bushfire Relief match to access more star power.

Original plans to select three players from each of the 18 clubs to make up the 27-man Victoria and All-Star line-ups have been scrapped.

Instead, a minimum of one player from each AFL club will be required across the two outfits, opening the door for more players from powerhouse clubs to take part.

It is understood up to five players could represent some AFL clubs in the clash at Marvel Stadium on Friday, February 28. (AFL)

All-Star Game

This is what the weekend is all about - Team Giannis Antetokounmpo v Team LeBron James in Sunday's All-Star Game.

The teams are made up of 'all-star' players from across the leagues - voted for by team-mates, fans and media - and they are captained by those who received the most votes.

Giannis and LeBron picked their teams in a 'playground' format on live TV, so being picked last had an added sprinkling of salt to it.

There was added seasoning in the way Giannis snubbed Houston Rockets' James Harden - claiming it was because he wants someone "that's gonna pass the ball". Ouch.

Not so Super! Australia 0-6 against foreign opposition.

The Brumbies lost the match 23-22 with the Highlanders scoring after the buzzer, but it could have been a completely different story if the Highlanders had been reduced to 14 men for the majority of the second half.

It’s three losses in a row for the Tahs to start season 2020 after Friday night’s 24-10 loss to the Rebels in Melbourne. Far too early to write off their finals hopes, but the outlook is far from rosy. The Waratahs will do well to fill Scully Park in Tamworth next month. (the roar)

On the back of a powerful rolling-maul, the Jaguares scored four second second-half tries to come from behind to beat the Reds 43-27 in Buenos Aires.
