Tourists face tough task to avoid defeat in third Test

India face a daunting task to avoid defeat in the third Test against Australia after closing day four on 98-2, requiring a further 309 runs to win.

The hosts resumed on 103-2 before declaring on 312-6, setting India an unlikely 407 for victory in Sydney.

All-rounder Cameron Green hit an entertaining 84, while Steve Smith made 81 and Marnus Labuschagne scored 73.

India's chase started well, before Shubman Gill fell for 31 and Rohit Sharma was caught in the deep for 52.

Cheteshwar Pujara and captain Ajinkya Rahane remain unbeaten on nine and four respectively, but will need to form a substantial partnership to help their side either bat out the final day for a draw or pull off a remarkable victory.

The highest successful fourth-innings chase at the Sydney Cricket Ground is 288, which Australia made against South Africa in 2006.

Stump mic specialists Tim Paine, Matthew Wade and Marnus Labuschagne leave Shane Warne speechless for once.

Magic Millions: Swift Witness stunning win in Gold Pearl after pre-race drama

Brenton Avdulla and the training duo of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott were the huge winners out of a dramatic Aquis Gold Pearl in which Swift Witness emerged as a serious Magic Millions contender and a jockey was hospitalised after a scary pre-race incident.

The running of the two-year-old Magic Millions qualifier on the Gold Coast was delayed due to concerns for the health of apprentice jockey Justin Huxtable who was kicked in the chest by a clerk’s horse in the mounting yard.

Huxtable fell to the ground and was given a green whistle for pain relief in the incident in which he had been about to remount Chris Munce filly Rhapsody Rose who had thrown him in the yard.

Huxtable was placed on a stretcher and taken to hospital. Queensland jockey representative Glen Prentice reported Huxtable has a broken rib and doctors are assessing issues with his spleen and kidney.

There was further drama when Rhapsody Rose dislodged replacement jockey Ben Thompson before being cleared to start.
