๐ฅ Aussie Liam Paro delivered a career-defining performance to upset Subriel Matias on his home turf and seize the IBF super lightweight world title in a stunning boxing upset. Despite being a $5.50 underdog, Paro secured a unanimous decision victory (115-112, 115-112, 116-111) over the Puerto Rican fighter at the Coliseo Juan Aubin Cruz Abreu in Manati, amidst a fervent crowd.
๐ icymi: Australia remain unbeaten in the T20 World Cup group stage with a tough five-wicket win over Scotland in St Lucia. Despite six dropped catches, Australia faced a challenging target of 181 set by Scotland.
Already through to the Super 8s, Australia's win was crucial for England's hopes. After a shaky start at 3-60 in the ninth over, Marcus Stoinis (59 off 29) and Travis Head (68 off 49) led a crucial partnership. Needing 95 runs from eight overs, Stoinis hit back-to-back sixes in the 13th over to spark the comeback. Head then blasted three sixes in the 16th over to swing momentum in Australia's favour.
After their dismissals, Tim David's quick 24 not out off 14 balls ensured Australia reached the target. Stoinis was named player of the match for his pivotal innings.
๐๐ผ Australia's swimmers are being urged to channel the spirit of the nation's famed upset of the United States on different waters to snap a 68-year Olympic hoodoo.
Australia have not beaten the Americans on an Olympic swimming medal table since the 1956 Games in Melbourne.
Swimming Australia's head coach Rohan Taylor is bullish about the prospects for his 41-strong team for the Paris Games starting next month.
"This team is going to give it a good shake," Taylor said.
"But the Americans, there's a reason they haven't been beaten since 1956 - they're just extremely competent when it comes to the Olympics, this is where they step up.
"They have got the depth, they've got the numbers, they've got the experience.
"We're going to go there and do everything we can to create an environment for these (Australian) athletes, first and foremost, to do their best.
