🗞 Maturity beyond his years
G'day sports fans,
“They’ve got a guy called Doc that’s doing a documentary on him, and when they’re doing a documentary it’s probably time to hang them up!” - Cameron Munster teases coach Bellyache on retirement rumours.

🇦🇺 Jamarra Ugle-Hagan booted five goals as the Western Bulldogs broke through for their first win of the season.
The 20-year-old showed maturity beyond his years after a difficult week, lifting his jumper to point to his skin with pride - a mirror of Nicky Winmar's famous gesture a few weeks shy of the 30-year anniversary of that iconic moment - after the first of his goals in the 10.7 (67) to 7.11 (53) victory over Brisbane. 🏉 The Sydney Roosters overcame the early loss of their captain James Tedesco to post a hard-fought 28-20 win against Parramatta at Allianz Stadium on Thursday night.
The Eels put in a gusty performance, especially in defence, producing a number of last-ditch, try-saving tackles, but ill-discipline cost them dearly, with two players sent to the sin bin, meaning they played 20 minutes of the first half with 12 men. (match report)
"I was expecting a send off - I was ropeable at the time that it wasn't," Trent Robinson said after the game.
"Then I looked at it after the game and I was a bit more 50-50, and that's where it ended up"

🐴 The shock passing of multiple Group 1 winner I'm Thunderstruck has devastated Australian and New Zealand racing.
Kiwi-bred and a winner of seven races and $8.3m prize money, was humanely euthanised on Thursday after an incident following a routine fetlock operation.
"He seemed to stand up OK but they quickly realised he was severely lame and as a result of that they found he had multiple fractures in a knee, which wasn't the area (operated on), the surgery was actually on a fetlock," - OTI Racing chief executive Terry Henderson.

🏉 A massive six minutes of 'dead time' has been removed from Super Rugby Pacific on average per game following the introduction of law variations, following analysis of data from the opening four rounds of the 2023 season.
A raft of variations including 90-second time limits on conversions, 30 seconds for scrums and line outs to be set and off-field and off-screen TMO reviews, has encouraged a more entertaining spectacle which has also resulted in an increase in the average points scored per match.
🏀 The South East Melbourne Phoenix have hired Mike Kelly to fill their vacant head coach position, the team announced on Thursday.
Kelly, a one-time NBL Coach of the Year, will replace Simon Mitchell, who stepped down as head coach after four years with the Phoenix. (ESPN)
🐴 Doncaster Mile legend Glen Boss has identified Zougotcha as the horse to beat in the famous handicap at Randwick on Saturday, saying the filly has beaten the handicapper.
Boss famously won the race seven times as a jockey and says the Chris Waller-trained filly is the horse he'd love to ride this time around, getting into the $4m contest with just 50.5kg on her back.
"She profiles really well for the race, the light weight is a big plus and she has a great jockey," Boss said.
🏏 IPL 16 starts Saturday (AEDT): Josh Hazlewood will miss the initial stages, but remains hopeful of turning out for Royal Challengers Bangalore later in the tournament.
Glenn Maxwell, who missed Australia's final two ODIs against India earlier this month, remains an uncertain starter for RCB's opening game of the IPL as he continues to recuperate from a leg injury. (Cricket)
🏉 Melbourne fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen has resumed running on grass in the clearest sign yet he is approaching a long-awaited return from his knee injury.
But coach Craig Bellamy is still hesitant to confirm when the 24-year-old will be back on the park.

Verstappen had attempted to file a trademark for the brand, which was to be called “Max 1”, until Nike stepped in.
The sports clothing and apparel giant took umbrage with the name because of its similarity to Nike’s Air Max shoe range.
