⚽️ What could have been: The Socceroos went awfully close to ending their Japan hoodoo.

The Australian men's national team has never won in the country, a record that continues after a drawn (1-1) AFC Asian Qualifier for the World Cup featuring two own goals.

Japan finished with 71 per cent possession and had 12 shots with three on target. Australia finished with only one shot overall.

Preparation for the Socceroos couldn't have been worse after the team bus was stuck in traffic on the way to the stadium. The side didn't warm up until 28 minutes before kick off.

🚨 From monday’s edition: Former Wallabies captain Rocky Elsom has responded to the international warrant seeking his arrest, insisting that he is innocent of the charges and that he was not afforded the opportunity to defend himself in the first place.

⚽️ Perth Glory captain Adam Taggart reckons his team can be the A-League Men's surprise packets this season, declaring finals as a minimum target.

Glory collected the wooden spoon last season in a campaign that yielded just five wins and seven draws from 27 matches.

The highly rated David Zdrilic has been thrust into the hot seat in his first role as a senior coach, but the outside predictions aren't looking pretty, with Glory tipped to finish near the foot of the table again.

But with new owners in place to go with a new coach and a new-look squad, Taggart is confident Glory will buck the odds this season.

🏏 The first ball Glenn Maxwell faced for Victoria’s 2nd XI in nearly 15 years - six big ones.

🏉 Wallabies assistant coach Laurie Fisher has confirmed Suaalii will definitely tour Europe next month but it remains to be seen with which team.

The Wallabies have a daunting Spring Tour Grand Slam schedule with Tests against England (November 10 AEDT), Wales (November 18), Scotland (November 25) and Ireland (December 1).

And a second string Australia XV is also heading to the United Kingdom for games against the Bristol Bears (November 9 AEDT) and England A (November 18).

“At the end of it, it's my life and my dreams and what I want to do. Everyone is gonna have an opinion on it, which is respected, but at the end of the day what I want to do is come and play for the Waratahs and Wallabies.” - Joseph Suaalii on making the move to Rugby Union.

🐴 Racing NSW boss Peter V'landys has given the biggest indication yet that King Charles III could attend The Everest this weekend.

The British royal arrives in Sydney on Friday with Queen Camilla by his side.

Reports have suggested the couple could be at Royal Randwick on Saturday with one of the races named in the King's honour.

Speaking at The Everest barrier draw, V'landys said the King is "very keen" to attend.

"It all depends on the day how he feels," he told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

"He has had an illness, as we all know, it's a long trip from where he's coming but I know he's very keen.”

🏟️ The Australia Kangaroos and Jillaroos have named their teams for the opening matches of the Pacific Championships.

The Kangaroos will face Tonga while the Jillaroos will play against Papua New Guinea

Both men's and women's Test matches will be played at Lang Park on Friday.

Tom Dearden and Mitchell Moses will play in the halves while wingers Zac Lomax and Xavier Coates and interchange forwards Mitchell Barnett and Hudson Young have also been named in the 17-man team.

🔁 The interest in Selwyn Cobbo has been immense in recent weeks after it was revealed last month that the Broncos hadn’t tabled him a fresh offer.

The Courier-Mail reported the Broncos were facing the likelihood that Cobbo will test his value on the open market from the November 1 deadline when rival clubs will be free to talk to him. His contract with Brisbane expires at the end of the 2025 season.

Cobbo reportedly would rather stay at the Broncos, but could potentially join the NRL’s millionaire’s club if he tests his value.

🕺🏼 Up to 10 GWS Giants players could be facing bans and fines after an anonymous complaint around an end-of-season party.

The League and the Giants have confirmed they are looking into what happened at the event last month, days after the club's season ended with the semi-final loss to premiers Brisbane.

"The AFL and GWS have been undertaking an investigation into the Giants players' post-season event, which is in its final stages," the League said in a statement.

🔁 Collingwood’s footy department shake up has continued, with Brendon Bolton moving to St Kilda to take up an assistant coaching role under Ross Lyon.

🏈 Determined to save their season from ruin and preserve their hopes of ending a half-century Super Bowl drought, the New York Jets are finalising a blockbuster trade for star wide receiver Davante Adams, according to ESPN.

The Las Vegas Raiders will receive a conditional third-round draft pick that could improve to a second-round selection.

🏀 NBA Medical Room: Kawhi Leonard has been ruled out for the remainder of the LA Clippers' preseason, and his status for their season opener Oct. 23 remains uncertain.

Leonard has not suited up this preseason, missing the first three games including 110-96 win against the Dallas Mavericks because of inflammation in his right knee.

Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George suffered a hyperextended left knee in the second quarter of Monday's preseason win in Atlanta and didn't return.

"Hopefully it'll be OK, so he's back with us right away," 76ers coach Nick Nurse told reporters after the game.

⚽️ Sir Alex Ferguson will leave his role as Manchester United ambassador at the end of the season.
