Serena Williams won her first title in three years

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion beat Jessica Pegula 6-3 6-4 at the Auckland event.

It is the 38-year-old's first singles title since she won the Australian Open in 2017 and her 73rd WTA title overall.

Marcus Stoinis reminded Australian selectors of his worth with a record breaking knock, while Ben Dwarshuis broke an unwanted record that was barely a day old, with figures of 0-61 - the most runs conceded in BBL history.

No stars off limits as Warne, Ponting vow to open address book for Bushfire Bash

Two of Australia’s greatest ever cricketers, Ponting and Warne, will lead the two teams on February 8 as Cricket Australia attempts to raise much needed funds in the curtain-raiser to the BBL|09 final.

It means legends Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Brian Lara could well return to Australian soil for one last cricket match.

It’s finally over! Latrell Mitchell to sign with South Sydney Rabbitohs TODAY

The saga surrounding Latrell Mitchell’s playing future is reportedly set to end with the 22-year to sign with South Sydney today.

Multiple news outlets including the Sydney Morning Herald and Daily Telegraph are reporting Mitchell will sign a one-year deal with a one-year option in the Rabbitohs’ favour.

The first year of the deal is reportedly worth $600,000 with that to jump to $800,000 if the second year is triggered. It is understood that Mitchell received a verbal guarantee that he will be handed the fullback position. (foxsports)

Cowboys playmaker Martin forced to retire immediately after brain bleed

The 24-year-old Martin hasn’t played since April last year when he suffered a bleed on the brain.

“The last nine months have been extremely difficult,” Martin said in a statement on the club website.

“I’d like to reassure everyone that I’m doing well and I have recovered to the point where my day to day life isn’t affected, but I can’t get past the contact stage of training, which means I can’t play footy anymore.
