Australian Open 2021: Delayed tournament to start on 8 February

The first Grand Slam of the 2021 season was scheduled to occur in Melbourne from 18 to 31 January.

The four-day men's qualifying event has been moved to Doha, Qatar, and will start on 10 January.

Players will arrive in Melbourne on 15 January for a 14-day quarantine period under local coronavirus rules.

The news was confirmed when the ATP announced the schedule for the first seven weeks of the men's tour next year.

There will be two tournaments in Melbourne starting on 31 January - one of which is the relocated Adelaide International.

"The reconfigured calendar for the start of the 2021 season represents a huge collaborative effort across tennis, under challenging circumstances," ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said.

"Health and safety will continue to be paramount as we navigate the challenges ahead."

Magic touch: Wallerโ€™s plan for Millions stars

Ultra impressive filly Sheโ€™s All Class is poised to head straight to the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast with star stablemate and key rival Shaquero set to return to the races on Boxing Day.

Trainer Chris Waller looks set to have his strongest hand in the lucrative two-year-old feature and Sheโ€™s All Class booked her flight to the Glitter Strip with a demolition job at Wyong on Wednesday.

It saw her unsurprisingly surge up TAB's market for the Magic Millions with the bookie slashing her price from $51 to $4.50 equal favourite with Shaquero before drifting back to $5.

โ€œShe was impressive,โ€ Waller said.

โ€œI would say she wouldnโ€™t need another start now. Sheโ€™s had two starts and learned a lot from yesterday so I will probably give her an exhibition gallop or trial. (racenet)

Russia banned from Tokyo Olympics and 2022 World Cup after Cas ruling

Russia's ban from all major sporting events after a doping scandal has been cut to two years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The ban still prevents Russia from competing in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, set to be held next year, and football's 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Russia was initially given a four-year ban by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Cas said the reduction of the ban should not be seen "as any validation" of Russia's conduct.

The ban will now run until 16 December 2022, meaning Russia is also banned from competing at the Winter Olympics in Beijing in February.
