🏉 Australia earned a small bit of revenge for last year's Pacific Championships, holding off a gallant Kiwis outfit on Sunday.

In front of a sold-out crowd in Christchurch, the new-look Kangaroos withstood plenty of pressure and sealed the deal over their Trans-Tasman rivals with a 22-10 triumph.

The victory will see Mal Meninga's side advance to the tournament final.

🐴 In case you’ve be living under a rock: Via Sistina was the 2024 Cox Plate champion after a historic and dominant win in Saturday’s Group 1 race by a record eight lengths.

Prognosis, who was the favourite, came in second place followed by Broadsiding in third and Mr Brightside in fourth.

Via Sistina was in pole position for the majority of the 2040 metre Moonee Valley race, then charged home on the turn and never looked like letting up in an incredible performance.

With it, Via Sistina (2:01.07) smashed Winx’s 2017 track record (2:02.94) by nearly two seconds in the demolition.

“This was Winx-like, you don’t get any better than this ... it’s just remarkable.” -  Channel 7’s Bruce McAvaney said afterwards.

With that run she was quickly installed as the joint Melbourne Cup favourite ($7.0), despite being a 50/50 proposition for next Tuesday's race.
