Pre-Season Injuries / Absentees
🏉 The Dragons are reportedly set to cut new recruit Ronald Volkman from the squad after a routine medical exam revealed he needs season-ending shoulder surgery.
The day went from bad to worse for the Dragons, with Corey Allen suffering a suspected ACL injury at training. If a complete tear confirmed would be facing likely reconstruction surgery and 6-9 months recovery time.

It’s a devastating blow for the 18-year-old, who played SG Ball, Jersey Flegg and also made his New South Wales Cup debut last season.
The club also gave an update on Ryan Matterson (quad) and Wiremu Greig (quad). Matterson has returned to full training, while Greig will do so too in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Clint Gutherson (knee), Junior Paulo (toe), Makahesi Makatoa (pectoral) and Daejarn Asi (finger) are all expected to be fit for Round 1.
🇦🇺 Melbourne superstar Clayton Oliver has been given extended leave from the club and did not return for pre-season training for personal reasons.
The midfielder battled a hamstring injury throughout the 2023 season and was in dispute with club over how it was treated.
“Clayton has personal issues that he has been dealing with. Clayton has been working extremely closely with his personal medical team, and with the support of key club staff, in order to manage these challenges,” Demons General Manager of AFL Performance Alan Richardson said.

🎾 John Millman has choked back tears thanking his loyal fans after the self-confessed tennis "battler" played the final match of his storied 18-year professional career.
The one-time US Open quarter-finalist and fan favourite lost 6-4 6-3 to Slovakia's Alex Molcan in the second round of Australian Open qualifying on Thursday.
The defeat denied the 34-year-old a chance to bow out on one of Melbourne Park's show courts during the Open proper - but Millman was typically OK with finishing up on humble court No.3.
🎾 Australian wildcard Dane Sweeny [think of Golf’s Cam Smith playing Tennis] is one win away from a maiden grand slam appearance after he toppled his seeded Italian opponent in straight sets in qualifying at Melbourne Park.
Sweeny won the first set in a dogged 85-minute bout before he stormed home to defeat world no. 119 Luca Nardi 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 in the second round of the play-in tournament.
