🏉 Eddie Jones' tumultuous second coming as Wallabies coach looks to be over.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Jones resigned on Sunday, bringing an end to a disastrous 10-month reign that saw the Wallabies win just two of nine Tests and bow out of the Rugby World Cup at the pool stage for the first time in Australia's history.

Speaking to the Herald about his resignation, Jones said he was "disappointed".

"[I] gave it a run. Hopefully be the catalyst for change. Sometimes you have to eat s--- for others to eat caviar further down the track," Jones said.

The 63-year-old had been the subject of increasing speculation that he would walk away from his five-year contract after he was repeatedly linked with the now-vacant Japan job during the World Cup, having earlier this year already hinted that he would depart whether the Wallabies performed in France or not.

⛹🏻‍♀️ Australia overcame the "uncomfortable clunkiness" of coach Stacey Marinkovich trying different combinations to clinch the three-match series against South Africa with a 67-52 victory in the first netball Test played in Hobart.

Australia recorded their 45th win over South Africa in as many games.

⚽️ The Matildas sent their Olympic opponents a major statement, scoring a phenomenal 8-0 win over the Philippines in qualifying.

Perth's hometown hero Sam Kerr scored a hat-trick, while Caitlin Foord also slotted three in a ruthless performance.

🇦🇺 Sydney gave its finals hopes a huge boost after running away to a 19-point triumph over Collingwood as Chloe Molloy returned to haunt her former side at Henson Park.

🇦🇺 Retired Richmond triple premiership hero Jack Riewoldt has opened up on the "unequivocal" trade interest from Essendon prior to his role in the Tigers' recent dynasty.

In an edited extract supplied by The Herald Sun from Riewoldt's upcoming book The Bright Side, Riewoldt revealed he held conversations with former Essendon coach John Worsfold and midfielder Brendon Goddard in the off-season of 2016.

"The Brisbane Lions came hard again. And the Bombers were unequivocal about their interest. One day, I was in the bedding section of Myer at Southland when my phone rang, and Essendon coach John Worsfold was on the other end. There I was, lying back on a nice new mattress, chatting to the coach of an arch-rival.

"Brendon Goddard called later to give me a feeling for what was happening at the Bombers, doing his level best to see me swap a yellow sash for a red one.

🏀 Australian forward Jack White's NBA dream is still alive after he was taken with the first overall pick in the 2023 G League draft.

White was selected by the Texas Legends but had his rights traded to the South Bay Lakers.

The 26-year-old will join the Los Angeles-based team -- which is affiliated with the NBA's LA Lakers -- during the upcoming G League season.

White became the seventh Australian to win a NBA championship when he featured in the Denver Nuggets' 2022-23 success.

He then signed a two-year deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder this season but was waived during the preseason.

🏏 Tasmania recorded its greatest ever fourth innings score to stun Queensland in a remarkable Sheffield Shield match.

Jarrod Freeman’s six with 10 balls remaining in the contest saw Tassie successfully chase down the target of 432.

After posting 379 in their opening innings, the Bulls had bowled out the Tigers for 150, and then declared at 6-202 to try and win the match.

However a century for Matthew Wade (105 off 167), plus 70 from Beau Webster, allowed Freeman to combine with Brad Hope for a 75-run eighth-wicket stand to secure the victory in one of the great Shield run chases.

🤕 Weird off-field Injury: Young Saints forward Max King suffered an unfortunate setback ahead of his second season in 2021 when he was struck by a stray ball while enjoying a round of golf a week before his side's season opener.

The AFL's concussion protocols dictated that King needed to spend 12 days on the sidelines after his injury, which happened 10 days before the round one clash against GWS.

⚽️ Manchester City cruised past Manchester United 3-0, with embarrassing ease in the derby at Old Trafford to emphasise the vast gulf between the two sides.

Erling Haaland was the main tormentor with goals in each half before setting up a third for Phil Foden as Pep Guardiola's side established superiority from the kick-off and rarely looked like relinquishing control.

There were poignant scenes before the start as supporters from both sides of Manchester's footballing divide joined to pay tribute to the late Sir Bobby Charlton.
