🗞 'They play so well together'

G'day sports fans,

Classic quote: "You can make a lot of money in this game. Just ask my ex-wives. Both of them are so rich that neither of their husbands work." - Lee Trevino (golf great).

Most tennis balls caught with a bucket on your head in one minute: 107. I think some Sport Journal readers could beat this record?

🇦🇺 AFL

🗣 Fading Roos blasted by legends: David King and Jason Dunstall roasted North Melbourne as they suffered an alarming final-term collapse against Adelaide. (nine) North Melbourne conceded eight goals in the last quarter for the gain of just one as they plummeted to a 41-point defeat at Marvel Stadium.

❌ The Western Bulldogs are set to be without gun half-back Caleb Daniel against Gold Coast after he received a one-match suspension for a dangerous tackle. (RAS)

3️⃣ Best since ‘94; faded really badly: Every AFL team analysed in just three words after Round 4 (Fox)

They say Americans are lovers of Candy & the Big Cox is certainly no exception!

📈 Eighteen disposals and a goal. That is what star Hawthorn midfielder Tom Mitchell accumulated in a monster second quarter of his side's clash with Fremantle.

👏🏻 Player of the round: GWS stand-in skipper Toby Greene thrived on the responsibility of captaincy and starred with five goals against Collingwood. Greene booted three goals in the second quarter then two more after half-time to set up the Giants' breakthrough victory.

🧥 It all comes down to this: The final round of the 2021 Masters at Augusta National. A cool AU$2.72 million Australian to the winner but it's the Green Jacket the players will be dreaming about.

The year’s first major is perfectly poised heading into the final 18 holes.

Hideki Matsuyama, long touted as a majors winner, currently leads by 3 shots at 11-under after a searing third-round 65.

Behind him, the chasing pack includes Australia’s Marc Leishman, holding a share of second at seven under alongside Justin Rose, Xander Schauffele and Will Zalatoris (pretty much all of them have fallen in a hole over the first 8 holes). Give Hideki the jack now?

🐊 Golfer’s ball lands on mammoth alligator: Golfing in South Carolina can come with its fair share of hazards. Perhaps none are greater than having your ball land on a mammoth alligator!

“Under rule 16.1, which addresses “abnormal course conditions,” the player is “entitled to take relief with no penalty.” Which is good.

🏆 Melbourne Victory are the 2020/21 Westfield W-League champions, and they did it the hard way.

Teenage star Kyra Cooney-Cross was the hero for Victory, delivering a corner that swerved straight into the Sydney goal in the last seconds of extra-time, with a penalty shoot-out beckoning. (match report)

💰 Agent Mino Raiola is planning to make Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland, 20, the first £1m-a-week player. This could rule out a number of clubs who are interested in the Norway forward, although Manchester City and Paris St-Germain could raise the funds. (Sunday Mirror)

Champions! Blues cruise past WA to win 12th one-day title: Jack Edwards shows maturity beyond his years with the bat before NSW's star-studded attack rips through WA in Sydney.

Chasing 252 to defend their 50-over crown, WA's exciting batting group then came unstuck against the hosts' international-calibre attack, with Abbott (4-23 from seven overs) returning from a hand injury to upstage Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon.

The Blues ran out comfortable winners by 102 runs, the fourth largest victory margin by runs in a final, and they could complete the domestic double with victory over Queensland in the Marsh Sheffield Shield final, which starts on Thursday.

🐴 Racing

🤔 Gordon Richards says everything would need to fall perfectly in place for star sprinter Gytrash to make a surprise return to racing in the $502,250 Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 15.

"The timing is tight, but it would only be probably one run and then a break heading towards The Everest but it's an option."

🚂 The “Kah Train” rolled into Royal Randwick — and left with a famous win.

Sydney punters and race fans have a greater appreciation of the Jamie Kah phenomenon now after she rode Godolphin’s Cascadian to win a historic $3 million Doncaster Mile (1600m) on Saturday.

Kah has taken Melbourne racing by storm this season but she is rewriting racing history everywhere she goes including:

● The first female jockey to ride the Doncaster winner;

● The first female jockey to win a Group 1 race for the Godolphin stable anywhere in the world;

● She is a runaway leader in the Melbourne jockeys’ premiership and is set to become the first female to win the title. (racenet)

☝🏼 When Nature Strip is in this mood, there isn’t a sprinter in the world that can match him.

Nature Strip was at his arrogant, explosive best in the Group 1 $2.5 million TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick – and was compelling to watch.

It is the enigma that is Nature Strip that makes him so exciting.

Fullback, centre or wing? It doesn't really matter when it comes to Jordan Petaia if you ask his Queensland Reds coach Brad Thorn - as long as you stick to one rule.

"There was a move in the All Blacks: pass the ball to Jonah because he's good," the 56-Test New Zealand lock said.

"That's a good move ... and I just think he's (Petaia) one of those special guys, they're just good.

Reds 24-22 Brumbies: Reds edge Brumbies in Brisbane thriller to seal home Final. The Reds did just enough to defeat the Brumbies in a nail-biter in their Super Rugby AU clash at Suncorp Stadium.

Rebels 15-16 Force: The Western Force secured an unlikely 16-15 victory over the Rebels at AAMI Park on Saturday, as the Rebels were made to pay the ultimate price for their lack of killer instinct.

Highlanders 23-26 Chiefs: Damien McKenzie sealed a dramatic 26-23 victory for the Chiefs at the Forsyth Barr Stadium after nailing a long-range penalty in extra time.

Hurricanes 27-30 Crusaders: The Crusaders claimed a dramatic 30-27 Super Rugby Aotearoa victory over the Hurricanes on Sunday as David Havili slotted a dropkick in golden point extra time.

🇺🇸 USA

The LA Lakers beat the Brooklyn Nets 126-101 despite missing five players and seeing Dennis Schroder ejected in the second half.

Andre Drummond scored 20 points for the Lakers and Schroder registered 19 before he and opponent Kyrie Irving were removed.

The Lakers are missing Anthony Davis through a calf strain and LeBron James, who watched from the sidelines.

Irving scored 18 points in the first half for the Nets but was left furious after he and Schroder were ejected for a double-technical foul.

The 29-year-old had to be escorted off the floor and threw his jersey into the stands as he left.

Elsewhere, the Utah Jazz became the first team in the NBA to win 40 games, beating the Sacaramento Kings 128-112.

Stephen Curry scored a game-high 38 points as the Golden State Warriors beat the Houston Rockets 125-109, while the Phoenix Suns beat the Washington Wizards 134-106.
