🗞 Pretty Emotional

Morning all,

Let's start the day with a classic quote: "That's great, tell him he's Pele and get him back on." Partick Thistle manager John Lambie, when told a concussed striker did not know who he was.

🎾 Australian Open

Nick Kyrgios has proved he is a man of the people after requesting Australian Open organisors put his first round match on a public court rather than Rod Laver Arena.

The 23rd seed will play now world No.51 Lorenzo Sonego on Melbourne Arena which can be accessed by punters with ground passes.

🇦🇺 Aussie wildcard Marc Polmans has won his first match at a slam, stunning fancied rival Mikhail Kukushkin in a five-set epic, with a final scoreline of 6-4 6-3 4-6 6-7(8) 6-4.

🇦🇺 Jordan Thompson accounted for Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in straight sets while Millman (who said the drunker fans are, the better 🍻) took four to get past Ugo Humbert.

🇦🇺 Tomljanovic became the fifth Aussie woman to beat a seeded player at this event since 2010 when she downed 31st seed Anastasija Sevastova 6-1 6-1.

🇦🇺 Alexei Popyrin joined them when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retired hurt after going down two sets to one.

🇦🇺 Then Alex Bolt and Arina Rodionova also won their ways through.

Rafael Nadal wasted little time advancing to the Australian Open second round, casting aside Bolivian Hugo Dellien for the loss of only five games.

Maria Sharapova’s faltering career has hit a fresh low with the five-time Grand Slam champion turfed out in the first round of the Australian Open in straight sets. (her magnesium deficiency must really be hindering her performance, taking Meldonium might help?)

Latest fund raising efforts:

@AlexZverev has pledged to donate $10,000 for every AO match-win and if victorious, every single cent of his prize money.

John McEnroe says he'll donate $1,000 towards Bushfire Relief for every set @NickKyrgios wins during the rest of AO.

A must watch

Five-star Victory show their class

Melbourne Victory have moved one step closer to a place in the group stage of the Asian Champions League with a dominant 5-0 victory over Bali United.

Word is, the Bali United line up was primarily made up of Aussie backpackers they found partying on the island.

Chasing an eighth Asian Champions League appearance, Victory scored two goals in the first half and added three in the second - but could have had many more in a free-flowing clash. (foxsports)

If you can't beat 'em, buy 'em

Real Madrid have completed the signing of 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder Reinier Jesus for £26m.

Reinier was the top scorer at the Dubai Under-16 World Cup in 2018, where his club beat Real Madrid in the final.

Thrilling win for Hurricanes over Renegades

Hobart’s BBL finals hopes are alive after holding out the Melbourne Renegades by four runs in a drama-packed battle at Marvel Stadium.

The Hurricanes appeared to have the match in the bag before a surging 85-run partnership from Mohammad Nabi and Beau Webster almost pinched the game for the hosts.

Renegades batsman Sam Harper had to be replaced retired hurt and go to hospital after colliding with Hurricanes bowler Nathan Ellis in an ugly incident.

Earlier, Hurricanes blasted their way to 3-190 via some fireworks from Matthew Wade (66) after the Renegades sent them into bat.

Aussie teen leggie is tearing it up at the World Cup

He was last year labelled by Kerry O’Keeffe as “the real deal”, and now 18-year-old leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha is showing why on the world stage.

Sangha is on fire for Australia in the early stages of the Under 19s World Cup, shooting clear at the top of the wicket-taking charts after two matches.

The bowling prodigy from Sydney’s southwest has already taken nine wickets at an astonishing 4.88 runs apiece. (foxsports)

🏌🏻‍♂️ Golf

Dubai Desert Classic

Course: Emirates Golf Club, Dubai, UAE, Par 72, 7,328 yards

Last year's winner: Bryson DeChambeau.

What you need to win: The Majlis is not a stern examination of a player's game. Length off the tee is often a big advantage. You need to be making birdie's on all par 5's.

Stat: Six of the last 13 players to win this title have also won an Open Championship.

3 players to watch: Tommy Fleetwood (9.0), Sergio Garcia (21.0), Bernd Wiesberger (26.0)

PGA Farmers Insurance

Course: Torrey Pines, California - 7,698-yard South Course and 7,258-yard North Course

Last year's winner: Justin Rose

What you need to win: Accuracy off the tee won’t be a factor this week, but driving distance will on the South Course. A solid short game will help.

Stat: Tiger has won here eight times (this tournament seven times and his 2008 US Open win on one leg)

3 players to watch: A fair chance one of the top 3 from McIlroy, Rahm or Woods will win but we'll be cheering on Justin Rose (21.0), Patrick Reed (31.0), Sunjae Im (31.0)
