🏀 The Boomers suffered a tough defeat to Germany in their second game of the FIBA World Cup, going down 85-82 at Okinawa Arena.

Germany was dealt a big blow before Sunday’s game with rising NBA star Franz Wagner ruled out.

NBA star Denis Schroder stepped up in his absence, leading the way for Germany with 30 points, eight assists and four steals in what Trevor Gleeson described as an “outstanding” all-round effort.

It was a tight contest right until the very end, with Josh Giddey taking a hail-mary shot from deep to win it and appealing that he was fouled.

“Brian Goorjian furious here saying that call decided the game,” - John Casey said in commentary.

🏎️

Australian Ricciardo crashed his Alpha Tauri at the banked Hugenholz corner during the second practice session for the Dutch Grand Prix.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said Ricciardo had an operation on Sunday to insert screws into the bone.

"It was a fairly straightforward procedure," Horner said.

Sea Eagles easily beat Bulldogs 42-24 at Accor Stadium on Sunday. Captain Daly Cherry-Evans led with help from Croker, Koula, and Saab for a thrilling seven tries to four win.

Newcastle have reached the finals with a 32-6 win but lost Ponga to a shoulder injury after his impressive performance with a try and assists, extending Knights' eight-game streak.

Port Adelaide secured third place with a 31-point victory over Richmond, setting up a qualifying final against Brisbane. Francis Evans kicked three goals in the win. The time and date of the 2v3 battle is pending, and Collingwood will host Melbourne in the other qualifying final.

Melbourne secured fourth place with a 21-point win over Sydney, denying the Swans a home final. Bayley Fritsch [Swysh], returning from injury, scored five goals, helping the Demons fine-tune for the finals with an 11.11 (77) to 7.14 (56) scoreline. Melbourne will now face Collingwood in a qualifying final.

⚽️ Darwin Nunez struck two late goals to complete a remarkable turnaround (2-1) and give ten-man Liverpool a dramatic victory against Newcastle United at St James' Park.

  • Burnley 1-2 Aston Villa

  • Sheff United 1-2 Man City

⚽️ Crystal Palace and Mali midfielder Cheick Doucoure, 23, is top of Liverpool's shortlist for a new midfielder and is valued at £70m.

🏎️ Red Bull's Max Verstappen survived losing the lead in early rain and a red flag for a late torrential downpour to win a chaotic Dutch Grand Prix.

Verstappen equalled the all-time record of nine victories in a row and took his 11th win of the season to extend his championship lead to 138 points.

A shower just as the race started dropped Verstappen to second behind team-mate Sergio Perez before he repassed on lap 13, while heavy rain with eight laps to go forced a red flag and a 45-minute delay.

But through it all Verstappen was always in control, as he has been for the entire season, and never really looked like losing the race.

🎾 Greek world No.7 Stefanos Tsitsipas will join forces with Aussie Mark Philippoussis for the US Open, giving his father a break from his player's box.
