G'day sports fans,
Did you know? By Jack Watts calling time on his career, finishing on 174 games, it's the most for a #1 draft pick without playing in any finals (Brett Deledio's first final was game #195)

Australian cricket legend Dean Jones has died after collapsing in a Mumbai hotel where he was commentating on the IPL.
Fellow former cricketer Brett Lee was on the scene and performed CPR on the 59-year-old.
Jones was working for Star Sports in its Mumbai bunker and had been in good spirits after months in lockdown in Australia.
"It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing away of Mr Dean Mervyn Jones AM," a statement from Star India said.
"He died of a sudden cardiac arrest. We express our deep condolences to his family and stand ready to support them in this difficult time.
A brilliant, attacking batsman, he averaged 46.55 in his 52 Test matches for Australia and scored 11 centuries, including a double century in the 1981 tied Test in Madras, which is celebrated as one of the most courageous in Australian cricket history.

Ex-NRL prop Mose Masoe walks unassisted in recovery

Mose Masoe has just provided the best moment of the rugby league year, walking unassisted for the first time since suffering a spinal injury during a Super League game.
He was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery and coach Tony Smith revealed: "This is a career-ending injury. If Mose is able to walk again, that will be a success."
Now, he has done it.

Bowman wins appeal over Farnan ride
Champion jockey Hugh Bowman sensationally had his 20-day suspension for his Run To The Rose ride on Farnan upheld on appeal on Thursday following a marathon eight-hour hearing.
Bowman was suspended for failing to give Farnan every reasonable and permissible chance to win the Run To The Rose after he had him out in front by five lengths and setting a cracking speed.
Farnan eventually faded in the straight to run fifth to Rothfire.
The Racing NSW Appeals Panel found that Bowman made an error in not riding Farnan more conservatively from the 500m to 350m after using up plenty of petrol in the earlier stages of the race. However it was “not a serious error”.

Rothfire has become a cult hero in Queensland as he goes into Saturday’s $1m Golden Rose at Rosehill — www.racenet.com.au
Just as Phar Lap raised the spirits of the nation in the Great Depression, the mighty Rothfire has been the ‘Prince of the Pandemic’ as he has hauled Queensland sporting fans along on his exhilarating racing journey.

French Open preview
There will certainly be a very different feel to the 2020 French Open when it starts this coming Sunday in Paris.
Men
Rafael Nadal; The Spaniard’s 12 titles in Paris and 93-2 win/loss record is incomparable in the sport. Nadal chose to skip the US hard court tournaments meaning his appearance in Rome was his first tournament in over six months and a shock defeat in the last 8, wasn't ideal preparation.
That loss may have made Novak Djokovic the favourite for the title. The Serbian won a record 36th Masters 1000 title in Rome on Monday and his shock default at the US Open is the only time he has lost this season.
Stat: A second title at Roland Garros would make the world number one the first man to win all four Grand Slam titles on multiple occasions in the open era.
Women
Simona Halep (FAV): 2018 Champion is on a record-equalling 14-match win streak and has won titles on clay in Prague and Rome since the restart.
Fellow two-time major winner Victoria Azarenka must have a chance. The Belarusian has been in resurgent form this summer. Azarenka lost to Garbine Muguruza in Rome, and the Spaniard is another potential contender.
After a disappointing 2019, Muguruza reached the final of the Australian Open in January and has demonstrated the type of form that has seen her be a two-time Grand Slam champion.
Despite fitness concerns, a large amount of attention will also be on Serena Williams. The American is still searching for a 24th Grand Slam, and it would be unwise to rule the three-time French Open champion out from winning here.

Brisbane Roar considering shock relocation to join Gold Coast Suns

Brisbane Roar has contacted AFL counterparts the Gold Coast Suns over potentially relocating the A-League club’s training base to the Suns’ $22 million home at Carrara.
Two other Gold Coast locations are also firmly on the table for the club’s potential relocation: Cbus stadium, home to NRL club the Gold Coast Titans; and Runaway Bay.
The Roar have struggled for attendances at the cavernous Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, with crowds hovering around the 10,000 mark in recent campaigns. (Fox)

'Would be mad not to have Hooper as captain'
After months of speculation about his future, Michael Hooper has been re-appointed as the captain of the Wallabies under Dave Rennie.

As Australia try to get the most out of the promising next generation of talent coming through their ranks, they need a leader.
He’s set to lead a 44-man Wallabies squad which includes 16-uncapped players, many of those being members of last year’s Junior Wallabies World Championship Finalists. Hooper’s proven leadership will simply be invaluable this early on in their test careers. (RugbyPass)
At the same time though, some would say, Hooper has one of the worst winning records of any regular Wallabies captain, which in itself could’ve warranted change.
Rugby Championship schedule means New Zealand All Blacks will miss Christmas
Key points:
New Zealand Rugby said they were upset with the announcement because of its impact on player welfare
Players will need to undertake 14 days of quarantine in New Zealand after the tournament, meaning they will spend Christmas Day in a hotel
The Rugby Championship starts on November 7 with six double-header matches (ABC)
