Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory both lose 1-0 in ACL returns

Melbourne Victory suffered their first Asian Champions League defeat under Carlos Salvachua, losing to K League side FC Seoul 1-0.

FC Seoul snatched a home lead after just eight minutes through Park Chu-Young, while Victory largely held their own but spurned a number of chances.

Perth Glory were undone by a slice of late Brazilian magic in their 1-0 Asian Champions League loss to FC Tokyo in Japan.

Glory were on track to secure a draw in their ACL debut on Tuesday night after putting in a brave defensive effort.

But Leandro broke their hearts in the 82nd minute when he unleashed a beautiful dipping strike from outside the box.

Champions League last-16 previews

With the Premier League race over, PSG running away with Ligue 1 and Bayern and Juventus seemingly in charge of the Bundesliga and Serie A, respectively, we might have to look to the UEFA Champions League for our drama between now and May. The action returns in force this week with the start of the last-16. All 16 teams still standing are from Europe's top five leagues.

Dortmund v PSG (today)

This has the potential to be the most wide-open and popcorn-worthy tie of the round. Both sides love to score, and score often: Kylian Mbappe and Neymar may be the most glamorous pair of forwards in the game right now, but the Dortmund duo of Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho could one day supplant them.

Atletico Madrid vs Liverpool (today)

The contrast in styles is sharp - deep defending vs. high energy, hunt 'em down, full-court press - but the ethos is the same for both teams known for their gritty, tough and uncompromising attitude.

You'd be brave to go against Liverpool in the form they're in.

Atalanta v Valencia (tomorrow)

Free-scoring Atalanta's high-energy, high-press, all-out attack has made them among the highest scorers in Europe. Expect them take a lead to Valencia.

Tottenham v RB Leipzig (tomorrow)

Jose Mourinho - as he'll no doubt remind you - has won this competition twice and knows what it takes to get it done in a two-legged format, though he'll be without star striker Harry Kane, who is injured.

The writers are backing Spurs here, I think RB could cause an upset.

‘Cocaine and $30 hookers’

We'll have a preview of the world title fight in Friday's edition. In the meantime, the superstar heavyweight boxer has revealed his cheeky plans to celebrate his rematch against Deontay Wilder on Sunday, with debaucherous consequences.

Angry Gal rages: Hall-Williams fight won’t sell, not like if I fought SBW

Paul Gallen has ridiculed the prospect of Barry Hall fighting SBW, saying “I can’t see the fight selling” and “Sonny won't make anywhere near the money he’ll make if he was to fight me.”

The retired Sharks, NSW Blues and Kangaroos enforcer fought Hall in a bout dubbed “Code Wars” last November, and raged against the decision after the bout was ruled a draw.

Talks had been ongoing about a possible rematch following the lucrative first fight, but negotiations broke down and promoter Danny Green has since talked up a fight with SBW. A(Fox)

Miracle at Daytona 500

NASCAR driver Ryan Newman is in serious condition after being taken to the hospital following a violent car crash during the Daytona 500 on Monday.

“Ryan Newman is being treated at Halifax Medical Center. He is in serious condition, but doctors have indicated his injuries are not life threatening,” NASCAR revealed in a statement on Twitter.

Newman, 42, was on the final lap of the event when his No. 6 Ford was tapped by driver Ryan Blaney’s vehicle.

Denny Hamlin won his second straight Daytona 500 (and third in five years) by less than a foot, but his celebration was subdued in light of the Newman crash.
