Under Pressure

🏏 Australia’s 14-match victory streak has come to an end after Harry Brook’s maiden ODI century powered England towards a 46-run triumph via the DLS Method at Riverside Ground.

Stand-in skipper Brook scored a career-best 110* (94) to ensure England was ahead of the DLS par score when the rain arrived at Chester-le-Street, keeping the five-match ODI series alive with two games remaining.

Third one-day international, Seat Unique Riverside

  • Australia 304-7 (50 overs): Carey 77* (65), Smith 60 (82); Archer 2-67

  • England 254-4 (37.4 overs): Brook 110* (94), Jacks 84 (82)

  • England won by 46 runs on DLS method; Australia lead series 2-1

🏀 Tacko Fall will join the New Zealand Breakers for their three NBA preseason games in early October.

The former NBA big-man - who stands at 7'6 - will be a guest player for the Breakers, suiting up for the NBL team for their preseason games against the Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Philadelphia 76ers.

🏏 South Australia stole victory from the jaws of defeat in their one-day season opener against Western Australia, clinching a thrilling two-run win over the reigning champions in Sydney.

🏉 Whilst the Wallabies went down 31-28 in Sydney, it’s the All Blacks that have arguably found themselves under more pressure to perform on Saturday after falling away in the second half.

The All Blacks have not won a second half in the Rugby Championship, outscored 86-38 as they find themselves in third position in the competition.

This is only heightened by their return to Wellington, a place where the All Blacks have their worst record in the professional era.

However, Salakaia-Loto has swatted away these suggestions like he palmed off Damian McKenzie in the final minutes.

“…We’ve got to be good enough to win on the day so that’s on us. I don’t think it has anything to do with how the All Blacks are playing or what’s going on inside their camp but we know that come Saturday we’re going to have a tough match against the World Cup finalists last year.”

Confirmed: Jordie Barrett has injured the medial collateral ligament in his left knee, and will miss the match.

🏏 Perfect T20 World Cup preparation for Australia with a five-wicket win in the final match of the series.

Georgia Wareham starred with ball  2-21 and produced a smart cameo with the bat (26) as Australia secured a five-wicket win over New Zealand in the third and final T20I in Brisbane.

No Changes

📄 Official team lists, updates and injury news for Week 3 of the 2024 NRL Telstra Premiership Finals Series.

Storm: No changes to the side that rolled over the Sharks in week one. Sua Fa'alogo is listed in the extended squad.

Roosters: Coach Trent Robinson sticks with the same squad that downed the Sea Eagles so impressively. Victor Radley is again named to start as he manages the pain of a fractured scapula.

Panthers: Back-rower Scott Sorensen has been named among the reserves as he looks to return from the hamstring injury.

Sharks: The Sharks have the luxury of naming the same 17 that got the job done against the Cowboys. Nicho Hynes lines up for his 100th NRL match.

🦘 Newcastle Knights superstar Kalyn Ponga has withdrawn from the race to represent the Kangaroos in the Pacific Championships.

In a statement on the Knights website, Ponga explained his sole focus is on preparing for the 2025 season and propelling Newcastle into a premiership contender.

"I want to win a comp, for me anything short of that, isn't success," Ponga said.

NRL rules state that players must make themselves available for represented games unless they are injured, which Ponga is not.

Braith Anasta called Ponga’s conduct “unprofessional” before journalist Paul Crawley called for a fine and an Origin ban.

The NRL have come down on Josh Addo-Carr for his drug-driving arrest, hitting the Canterbury winger with a breach notice for bringing the game into disrepute.

NRL bosses confirmed on Tuesday that Addo-Carr would be sanctioned over the incident, after he fronted the integrity unit last week.

Under the game's rules, the head office does not publish the details of sanctions, however it is expected to sit at close to a four-game ban along with a fine.

Addo-Carr has continued to claim he does not know how the cocaine that was detected at a roadside test this month got in his system, arguing he did not take illicit drugs.

🗳️ The AFL have reportedly denied a request from senior umpires to access stats post-game to aid the submission of Brownlow votes.

Scrutiny was thrown the way of umpires on Monday night, where Carlton superstar Patrick Cripps claimed his second medal in three years – joining an exclusive list of players to win the award multiple times.

Cripps’ tally of 45 votes on the night was far and away the most of any AFL player, surpassing the previous record of 36 by nine votes.

🏆 AFL Grand Final week for Brisbane’s Chris Fagan has become that little bit sweeter, after being voted the Allan Jeans Senior Coach of the Year for 2024.

Fagan claims the award for the second time in his eight-year career at the Lions, having previously won in 2019 after taking his side to a semi-final just 12 months after finishing 15th on the ladder.

  • 1. CHRIS FAGAN – BRISBANE LIONS – 272 VOTES

  • 2. JOHN LONGMIRE – SYDNEY SWANS – 209 VOTES

👋🏼 Geelong have bid farewell to seven players following the cessation of the 2024 season, with Brandan Parfitt, Gary Rohan, Phoenix Foster, Oscar Murdoch, James Willis, Mitch Hardie and Emerson Jeka all leaving the club.

🔁 Contracted Port Adelaide defender Daniel Houston has officially requested a trade to Victoria.

The two-time All-Australian's future has been speculated on in recent months after trade links tied him to a potential move away from Alberton in favour of a switch to his home state.

Houston isn't the only player set to leave with ruckman Ivan Soldo also intending to return to Victoria.

Houston is under contract at the Power until the end of 2027, meaning Port Adelaide would need to be satisfied by any club keen to acquire Houston's services.

Collingwood, North Melbourne, Carlton and the Western Bulldogs have all been linked to the rebounding backman.
