🐜 The Ants are back

They have officially accepted a license to join the newly formed VFL/Second Tier competition in 2021.

Northern Bull ants President, Stephen Papal said: β€œWe are delighted to confirm the Ants are back.

β€œSince the news of the Northern Blues and Carlton’s 18-year alignment ended on March 26, to be in this position brings a strong sense of fulfilment and justification to a lot of hard-working individuals who have got us into this position.

β€œI would like to make special mention of the Board of the Northern Bullants, to those hard working individuals who have worked tirelessly to continue operations of a football club with no guarantee of a happy ending.

Jack Higgins: A Comeback Story

β€œGrand Final day was sort of the catalyst of me trying to get back in my recovery. I saw how happy it made people and what a great achievement it was and I thought from that day onwards β€˜I want this to be me’.”

Roosters roll out the big guns

The Sydney Roosters have rolled out the big guns in the club’s pursuit of teenage superstar Joseph Suaalii with dual international Sonny Bill Williams speaking to the young gun.

The Roosters are also willing to allow the teenager to have get out clauses in the deal if he signs – a stipulation South Sydney were not willing to budge on.

Suaalii remains signed on a development contract with South Sydney for next season but the Rabbitohs have given him permission to negotiate with rival NRL clubs for 2022 and beyond.

The Bunnies intend to stand firm on not releasing the 17-year-old next year – for now – with arch rival foundation club the Roosters in the box seat to sign Suaalii.

Eels set to offer former Titan Bryce Cartwright career lifeline

The Eels are set to sign Cartwright on a one-year deal with the guarantee of a top-30 spot for 2021. However, the former Panthers and Titans utility has taken a drastic pay cut in order to get another opportunity in the NRL, agreeing to a minimum-wage contract.

Six players to leave Panthers

The departing Tamou is joined by Jack Hetherington, Caleb Aekins, Malakai Watene-Zelezniak, Pat Hollis and Brayden McGrady.

Tamou is headed to Wests Tigers, while Jack Hetherington has signed with the Bulldogs and Caleb Aekins will join Canberra Raiders. (NRL)

Roar defend plan play home matches outside of Brisbane

Roar coach Warren Moon has made no apologies for the A-League club’s plan to further reduce ties with the city of Brisbane by playing all their home matches at Dolphin Stadium.

Having recently made the Gold Coast their training base, the Roar have informed members of their intention to no longer play home games at Suncorp Stadium but instead at the boutique Redcliffe ground – situated in the Moreton Bay region – that was the venue for two of their A-League matches last season.

Warren Moon: β€œI don’t see what the big deal is. We’re going to a boutique stadium with an amazing atmosphere. This is a decision made in the best interests of the club and long-term sustainability. I don’t think anyone can begrudge us that.” [News Corp]

Recent work at Dolphin Stadium has seen the venue’s capacity rise to 11,500.

The Roar attracted crowds of 9387 and 9224 at the Redcliffe ground last season for respective matches against Melbourne City (4-3 win) and Perth Glory (1-1 draw). (The Australian)

Jai Alai

Jai alai is played with two or four players on the court. One player throws the ball against the wall, and the other player must catch and return it.

Your object is to throw the ball in a way that makes it so difficult for your opponent to catch and return the ball that they fail.

The fastest Jai-Alai (Pelota) throw is 305.77 km/h (190 mph), achieved by Ibon Aldazabal (Spain), in 2017

Team Picked to Win

Dave Rennie admits his side for Saturday’s do-or-die Bledisloe clash against the All Blacks has been picked with an eye to the future, but is confident if they can play to their potential at the Olympic Stadium they can keep the series alive.

The Wallabies head into Bledisloe III with one of their most inexperienced backlines this century after playmaker James O’Connor joined second playmaker Matt To’omua in the casualty ward.

Dave Rennie has been forced to call-up uncapped duo Noah Lolesio and Brumbies teammate Irae Simone.

β€œWe’ve certainly got an eye for the future, but it’s also about winning on Saturday,” Rennie said.

The entire backline only has 12 more caps that Aaron Smith. (rugby)

Shute Shield Final

After two exhilarating Semi Final matches, the 2020 Shute Shield Grand Finalists have been decided.

Last weekend Gordon outplayed Eastern Suburbs 28-10 after a low scoring 3-3 first half.

Northern Suburbs and Eastwoods’ Semi-Final fixture was equally as gritty…the 100-minute kicking thriller saw the Woods outdo the Shoremen four penalty goals to three with a full-time result of 9-12.

Gordon and Eastwood last met in a Grand Final back in 1976, when the Stags defeated the Woods 33-4.

Gordon will take on Eastwood at Leichhardt Oval this Saturday October 31 from 3.00pm AEDT with the game being streamed LIVE on 7TWO & 7plus.

World Series: LA Dodgers beat Tampa Bay Rays to triumph for first time since 1988

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won their first World Series in 32 years, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 to secure a 4-2 win in the best-of-seven championship.

Corey Seager gave LA the lead and Mookie Betts hit a home run in the eighth inning to seal victory.

Seager was later named the series' Most Valuable Player.

Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner was withdrawn midway through the game after it was confirmed he had tested positive for Covid-19.

"Thanks to everyone reaching out," Turner said on Twitter. "I feel great, no symptoms at all. Just experienced every emotion you can possibly imagine.

"Can't believe I couldn't be out there to celebrate with my guys. So proud of this team and unbelievably happy for the city of LA."

Turner's withdrawal meant he was unable to celebrate the moment the Dodgers clinched victory, though he did return to the field for a team photo, taking off his mask.

🏟 The NFL is planning for 20 per cent seating capacity for the Super Bowl on Feb. 7 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, according to ESPN.
