Dustin Johnson clinches FedEx Cup title with Tour Championship win

Tour Championship final-round leaderboard: (US unless stated)-21 D Johnson; -18 X Schauffele, J Thomas; -17 J Rahm (Spa); -14 S Scheffler; -13 C Morikawa; -12 T Hatton (Eng); -11 R McIlroy (NI), P Reed, S Munoz (Col)
The American, 36, held a five-stroke lead heading into the final round at East Lake and carded a two-under 68 to claim the $15m FedEx Cup jackpot.
It is a first FedEx Cup title for Johnson, who squandered a chance to win on the final round four years ago.
Compatriots Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele each carded a final-round 66 to finish tied for second on 18 under.
"I wanted to be a FedEx Cup champion, it's something in my career I would like to be and I'm very proud of the way I've played, especially over the last four tournaments."
π All eyes now turn to the brilliantly named Winged Foot, New York and the US Open. An early shout for Morikawa (21.0) from me. We'll have a full preview next week.

Alex De Minaur beats Vasek Pospisil at US Open to reach first Grand Slam quarter-final
Australia's Alex de Minaur has beaten Canada's Vasek Pospisil in the fourth round of the US Open, reaching his first Grand Slam quarter-final.
De Minaur, 21, came back from 2-6 down in the opening set tie-break to win in straight sets, 7-6 (8-6) 6-3 6-2.
It was an impressive performance from the Aussie 'Demon', lasting two hours and 19 minutes.
βYou talk about an effort player,β said John McEnroe on de Minaur, a guy who knows a thing or two about desire. βHeβs as good as it gets.β

Interviewer Q. You were talking about what you're best at, being solid, really making guys work. I think you take a certain pride in doing that, making guys do something special to beat you. I'm just curious if there is a root to that? Is that something that goes back to your junior days? Where did that come from?
Alex de Minaur: Well, if I could definitely blast people off the court, then trust me, I would rather do that. This running thing gets tiring, that's for sure (smiling).
Look, I've got to deal with what God gave me. He didn't give me the best physique, I'm not as strong or as tall as other people so I have to find ways to win. That's the way I win.
Of course I take pride and I want that to be known, I want that to be my brand of tennis. And I want people in the locker room to know that if they're going to beat me, they're going to have to go through me. π (full interview)
Grand Slam history is made as three mums move into the quarter-finals.

Ashleigh Barty: French Open champion pulls out of 2020 tournament over coronavirus

World number one Ashleigh Barty has decided not to defend her French Open tennis title this year, pulling out of the tournament because of coronavirus.
The Australian said last year's event at Roland Garros had been "the most special tournament of my career so this is not a decision I have made lightly".
Barty cited the health risks, and the inability to train effectively with her coach in recent months and explained that she had been unable to reunite with her Melbourne-based coach because of the state border closures imposed.
A total of 11,500 fans will be able to attend each day of the two-week tournament at Roland Garros from 27 September, split into three zones around the venue's three courts.
