NRL stars required to ensure league-approved home environments upon season resumption

NRL players will have to ensure their home environments are officially approved by the league as a part of strict protocols in the league's return from its coronavirus hiatus.

According to Nine's NRL reporter Danny Weidler, a 48-page document detailing the requirements for both players and staff was sent to each of the NRL's 16 clubs on Sunday night.

In the document, a list of strict rules are listed for both players and staff, rules which carry the penalty of a potential loss of premiership points as well as hefty fines if they are breached.

"The most interesting one that I found so far is that players' home environments are going to have to be approved by the NRL," Weidler told Nine News.

"Players are also going to have to undergo an online course detailing COVID-19 and getting their education up to speed. (nine)

Former NRL CEO Todd Greenberg already receiving job offers

Days after he stepped down as the NRL’s chief executive, Todd Greenberg is already receiving several job offers.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported Greenberg’s payout equated to more than $650,000, although that sum has not been confirmed by the NRL.

As chief executives across the country start dropping like flies, Greenberg revealed he has already been presented with offers for new employment.

ā€œI’ve had a couple of calls this week actually,ā€ he told 2GB's The Continuous Call Team on Saturday.

ā€œThe best advice I got was don’t say yes to anything and don’t say no to anything in the first month or so … Just take your time, reset, have a good break, and then you can decide what you want to do next. (Fox)

Vow And Declare gets a break after Flemington disappointment

Melbourne Cup winner Vow And Declare is heading for a break after disappointing trainer Danny O'Brien at Flemington.

Vow And Declare finished fifth in Saturday's William Newton VC Handicap (2600m), a little over four lengths from the winner Haky.

O'Brien dismissed suggestions Vow And Declare had not come up this campaign after two disappointing performances.

"His Australian Cup rating was his best-ever rating, so you couldn't say he hasn't come up in the autumn," O'Brien said.

"But he's been below-par at his past two runs.

"Most of these things, whatever they might be, are generally solved by a little break." (racenet)

Away Game ready to take on the big girls in Sangster

Away Game's already memorable juvenile season could reach new heights if the bold plan to run her in the weight-for-age Group I Robert Sangster Stakes is successful.

After Away Game won the Group II Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick on April 11, trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace revealed plans to pit the filly against older opposition in Saturday's Group One Sangster (1200m).

Eustace said Away Game had returned from Sydney to their Ballarat base in good order ahead of the trip to South Australia for the Sangster in which she will carry 47kg with Dean Holland to ride.

Dimma has applauded the NRL and encouraged the AFL to take note

Richmond premiership coach Damien Hardwick has applauded the ā€˜aspirational type leadership’ of the NRL during the coronavirus and has called for the AFL to reveal a return date.

The AFL were set to make an announcement on a return plan by the end of the month, but it has since been pushed back to May 11.

Speaking on ABC’s Offsiders, Hardwick pointed to the NRL and ARL Commission chairman Peter V’landys for announcing May 28 as its preferred return date.

ā€œI really applaud the NRL for their aspirational type leadership of giving a date,ā€ Hardwick said.

ā€œI love a carrot so to speak, I love a date to work with.

ā€œI think the really challenging aspect for us as coaches and players at the moment is we haven’t got a date so the motivation of when to start your training to prepare for that date.

ā€œOnce again, we’re working heavily with the government, the AFL are doing a great job in making sure the environment is safe but I think from a coaching or playing point of view we’d love a date as soon as possible, that way we can get started.ā€ (Fox)

Socceroos star Adam Taggart is back and scoring

Last season’s K-League top scorer Adam Taggart has wasted no time finding the back of the net as his team Suwon Bluewings prepares for the new campaign to get underway.

While most of his Socceroos teammates kick their heels with leagues suspended across the globe, Taggart took to the field on Saturday as Bluewings faced Seoul E-Land in a pre-season friendly.

Taggart notched the only goal of the game in the 10th minute.

The K-League is due to get underway on May 8.

Taggart is one of five Australians playing in Korea.

Throwback: 'Oh I'm In Trouble Here. It Just Went Boom'

Speaking on a special episode of Match of the Day, Gary Lineker (England's 3rd all-time top scorer) & host recalled: "I'd been ill overnight and it was the opening day of the cup and I'd woken up a few times with diarrhoea, etc.

"I didn't want to tell Bobby Robson because I thought he might leave me out the team, and I wanted to play, as always.

"We go out for the second half, we're ten or 15 minutes in and I'm starting to cramp again and I think, 'Oh, I'm in trouble here'.

"The ball went down the Irish left hand side and I ran across and tried to block something. I sort of fell to the ground and relaxed for a second and it just went 'boom'.

"It was like, 'Oh my god', but it was like everywhere. There's a bit, if you ever see the footage, where Gary Stevens comes over and asks what's wrong.

"And I go, 'I've s*** myself'. I just didn't know what to do. Thank God I had dark blue shorts on that day. I'm rubbing myself on the grass like a dog.

"It was amazing how much space I found after that though, I was stinking. (Sun)
